Edmund

Edmund came to us yesterday. He was found as a stray and is very. very thin and has dental problems and related eye problems. He is having a GA dental today, so will hopefully feel a lot better afterwards.

Ten months since the last post! I am going to **try** to post once a week - don't hold your breath!
An awful lot has happened since the last post, it's the busiest the rescue has been, with an unprecedented number of stray rabbits, including very young babies.
Unfortunately Pipkin died in February of this year, from cancer. Her name will live on as the inspiriation behind the rescue.

Totally unbelievable...........

Well, yesterday was a bit hectic. We took two buns in - one was a stray found in a local cemetery and is a very sweet little rabbit. The other was just stopped from being chucked off the Wearmouth Bridge in a cat box, by a lady passing by, thank goodness she did. He is a lovely blue/grey dwarf lop. I can't believe someone was going to throw the poor bun into the river :0((( What on earth is wrong with people??? Surely the idiot could have just left the bun in the cat box somewhere like a shop or library where he would have been found quickly.........

An even longer overdue update!

It seems to be stray season at the moment. It is so cruel to abandon an animal at any time, but during firework season it seems even worse to me. This last week we have taken in three strays. We also have a rabbit and piggie holidaying with us at the moment.
We had a very sad time yesterday, when Amy died. She came to us as a very (fear induced, I think) aggressive rabbit with the worst teeth the vet had ever seen, and turned into the sweetest little bun who followed me round the garden, loved to come into the house and if I was busy in the kitchen liked nothing better than to have a good look in the fridge. She died yesterday afternoon. I still feel totally shocked as she had shown no signs whatsoever of being off colour at all. We know she was at least 5 and a half years old, but beyond that don't know how old she was. I found her in her hutch yesterday afternoon and just couldn't believe it. Amy is very much missed by us and the many friends she made with people in "her" garden.

Sorry for such a long gap between posts! So much has changed here I'm not sure where to begin! The sad news is that Bigwig developed bladder cancer and had to be put to sleep as he was in pain.
Some buns have been homed and some buns have joined us and need their details putting on the website. At the moment we have 29 buns and 2 visitors who are staying here while they bond with each other - so far, so good on that front :0)
Bonny and Clyde have moved into the large run with Biscuit, Pipkin and Hazel and are all getting on brilliantly together. Quite often we look out and there is a big heap of 5 bunnies! The above photos are of Bonnie (on the bottom) and Clyde.

A long overdue update!!

Well it's been a while since we updated our blog! Lots of happenings - new buns in, and lovely new homes for buns who had been here quite a while. Archie & Ernie went to a fantastic new home.

We currently have 31 buns "in residence", one of whom is a very heavily pregnant lady!

Revel & Snowball get a new home

Today Revel and Snowball have gone to a lovely new home in Yorkshire. They have been together since they were babies, so we needed to find them a home where they would be together for the rest of their lives.

Bluebell update

Bluebell, the beautiful girl rescued yesterday who has recently had babies has developed mastitis. She is on antibiotics for a week, and will hopefully be feeling a lot better soon. She is frantically missing her babies, it is heartbreaking to watch her and think of what she must be going through. As well as desperately wanting her babies, she is in pain and discomfort from the mastitis, and yet is still a very sweet natured, friendly bun. She could teach most people a thing or two...............

More and more rabbits...............

This week I have taken in two lovely female buns who were put out, in a grotty hutch, for the bin men to collect..................

thankfully someone spotted them and did something about it. They are English type rabbits, and are beautiful and friendly.

Today I've taken in a gorgeous female bun who has had babies, probably within the last couple of days. It doesn't bear thinking of what has happened to them, as the mum bun was found wandering the streets. She is very pretty, and seems as if she is very friendly too, although at the moment she is obviously stressed out and wondering where her babies are.

I think I'm hardened to the hideous things people do to animals, but every now and again I am horrified anew and that's happened twice so far this week.................

A bunny update

Well we now have 26 rabbits and 4 guinea pigs in the rescue. It saddens me so much that these beautiful creatures are "unwanted" by their original families and are either callously dumped (including a full litter of 7 week old baby rabbits) or signed over to a rescue. If you are reading this I know I'm preaching to the converted, but it is definitely overdue that petshops stop selling animals. So many are bought on a whim and after a few months or even weeks they become a chore and are then disposed of one way or another. At least most rescues don't allow people to just turn up and adopt a pet and take it home the first day they make contact with the rescue. This at least stops the "impulse purchase" aspect.

A long overdue update!!

It is a long time since I have updated here! Things are very busy, we have got 24 buns and 4 guinea pigs in at the moment. On Sunday 3rd August we are having a fundraising day at Pets at Home, Sunderland and would love to see you there. We also have some lovely key rings, pads, bookmarks, badges and car stickers on our website now, to sell to help support the rabbits. Hello again,

We took in a new bun yesterday, whi is the absolute double of Biscuit who is in my run. The new boy is very sweet and will need to have his photo taken so he can go on the website (http://www.whiskers.eclipse.co.uk/). We're calling him "Sunny" as he is an absolute delight!!!

Easter Monday

Well the weather is not very spring-like! We've had flurries of snow all weekend so I'm very glad that we have a roof and walls on our run - it means when the sun does appear we can do a spot of sunbathing! Hazel has been very busy today, making a huge bed of hay - Biscuit and I just let her get on with it, and then snuggle down in it when she is finished!!

Hi,
I'm Pipkin, the head rabbit at Pipkin Rabbit Rescue, and I thought I'd tell you about the bunny goings on at our rescue. You can see more information and some photos of us at www.whiskers.eclipse.co.uk
Yesterday we introduced Hartley and Jasper to each other, after a few days of them being in adjacent runs. It went very well and they are now the best of buddies. Jasper looks a lot happier as he looked quite depressed when he was by himself. Of course, they will now be rehomed together.
Clyde was neutered last week and goes for his post-op check up on Tuesday. He is back to his usual bouncy self already!
